Geography field trip

Lime Class has been learning about the world’s major rivers and this week we turned our focus to a river a little closer to home, to Blackbrook located at the end of our road! We asked the question: “How does Blackbrook change along its course?” following our lessons on the three stages of a river. Firstly, we wanted to discover if the speed of the current changed as the river travelled from upstream to downstream. To do this we conducted an experiment to see how long it would take an orange to travel 5m in the water. We also observed how the river bank had been raised to form a flood barrier to protect the housing on either side of the river. It was a fantastic afternoon exploring our local environment and we even managed to avoid the rain.
