Curriculum Intent Statement

We learn, we care, we achieve together

At Robert Bakewell, inclusive and holistic education is at the heart of all we do. We strive to work together with the whole community in building lifelong learners that have raised ambition, are ready for the wider world, and have a strong sense of resilience. We provide learning experiences that both excite and engage.

Our knowledge engaged curriculum places equal importance on both knowledge and its application in skill. We have an interdisciplinary approach to learning as we know that our learners succeed when they can make connections across disciplines. We have a 2 year rolling curriculum which promotes mastery learning and deep understanding. The local context is a key priority for us, as we ensure our children develop their sense of identity in their community as well as looking out in to the wider world or Culture and Community

The curriculum we deliver at Robert Bakewell is both broad and balanced to ensure the learners receive a well-rounded education. We know our children have an expanse of interests and allowing them to explore the full range of the curriculum is of paramount importance. We have designed our own ‘Subject Sequences’ which are underpinned by the National Curriculum. The ‘Subject Sequences’ set out a clear progression of knowledge and skills so that we have clearly defined end points as well as specific retrieval opportunities so teachers can accurately revisit prior learning before introducing new content.
