Dave Freer - Vice Chair of governors

My name is Dave Freer and I am currently Vice Chair, having served as Co-Chair for 2 years and having been a Governor since March 2004. My 3 sons, who are now in their 20’s, attended the school as we lived just off the Derby Road when they were younger. I was also Chair of Dishley Scout Group for 6 years which was, and still is, based at the school on Friday evenings. I have worked in a Bank all my career and this has enabled me not only to bring a financial perspective into school, but has also given me daily experience of dealing with people, which is a vital skill to have.I have seen a lot of changes at school through the years and I am committed to continuing to help the school and its staff to achieve the best outcomes for all the learners.

Robert Bakewell is an incredibly special community of children, parents, staff and Governors, and I have been lucky enough to be a teacher at the school in a variety of roles for almost 10 years. 6 years ago I became a Staff Governor and enjoy being part of our active and dedicated Governing body and having opportunity to represent the voice of our dedicated and hard working staff in meetings and decision making.

I started my teaching career at Robert Bakewell in September 2014 and joined the governing body in 2015.  I join Mrs Barber in representing the voice of our wide range of wonderful staff as a staff governor. I have been teaching throughout Key Stage 2 since I started here and I joined the middle leadership team as Maths co-ordinator in 2018. I additionally worked temporarily on the senior leadership team in a cover-role throughout 2 terms in 2019. I also endeavour to take care of staff morale as the team at Robert Bakewell are truly exceptional in the way that they work together with the best interests of each and every pupil at the heart of their roles. These new roles and experiences have heightened my already strong dedication to the life of our school and the progress that we continue to make as a community of pupils, parents, staff and governors.
Pete Colgate - Parent governor

I am Pete Colgate and I am a Parent Governor here at Robert Bakewell.

I have a daughter currently at the school and I am passionate that every child has the opportunity to learn, develop and grow into confident, social and respectful members of the wider community.

I am a serving Police Sergeant with Leicestershire Police and have previously worked as a Branch Manager for a well known High Street Bank. These roles have provided me with the opportunity to listen to many issues in the community, and to offer help and support to all.

I am keen to ensure that all of the children at Robert Bakewell are properly safeguarded and I will work closely with the Governing Body to achieve this, challenging any behaviours that could harm our pupils or the reputation of the school.

Should you see me around the school, please come and say hello and let me know yours thoughts, good and bad.

For Robert Bakewell to continue to thrive, communication and your input is the key.

Andrew Reed - Outcomes governor

My name is Andrew Reed and I became a Governor in June 2018. Professionally I have been in the brewing and pub retail business for 30 years. I started Charnwood Brewery (with my wife I might add!) in 2014 which focuses on supplying beer to local licenced premises. I am also a Non Exec Director of the Steamin’ Billy Pub Company which has 11 pubs throughout Leicestershire. I feel I can help the Headteacher provide the very best learning environment for the children at Robert Bakewell School. I look forward to the challenge.

Hello, my name is Donna Alexander and I’m a governor at Robert Bakewell Primary school.  I’m a Registered Adult Nurse specialising in Cardiovascular Research. I chose to become a governor in 2013 just after my daughter started at the school, to help develop, support and challenge the decisions made that have an impact on our children’s education here at Robert Bakewell.

Hello, my name is Mary Bishop and I’m a parent governor at Robert Bakewell primary school. I have 2 children who both currently attend the school. It was also my primary school many years ago and holds a special place in my heart. I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 2002 and have had many years experience of working with children and alongside parents and carers. I became a parent governor in October 2018. I am very proud and passionate about Robert Bakewell and feel privileged to be a governor. I'm committed to working alongside the staff, leadership and governing body to help to achieve the best possible learning environment and outcomes for our children. Please feel free to come and have a chat about anything school related that I maybe able to help you with. I’m almost always in the playground at the end of the school day (I'm the lady that whizzes around on a blue mobility scooter!)
