Reception and Year 1 rolling programme 2019
Key Stage One
Reading, including the teaching of phonics, is taught from the beginning of Reception. The sequence of reading books used show a cumulative progression in phonic knowledge;the books are colour banded. At Robert Bakewell pupils are given time for practice in reading.
Every child in Key Stage One is taught phonics. At Robert Bakewell School we use the Linking Letters and Sounds Phonics Scheme.
Key Stage Two
Every classroom in Key Stage Two has a reading area which is stocked with age appropriate books. The books are organised according to our school 'Chilli Challenge' chart. Children select their own reading book.
All children in Key Stage Two are taught spellings following the No Nonsense Spelling Scheme.
