Class news

Goodness me, I’m missing you all so much! It’s really hard not seeing your wonderful smiles each morning, but staying at home is definitely the best thing to do and it’s great you’re all keeping safe. I know that you love hearing about what Henry and I have been doing. So, I’ve got some pictures for you. We’ve done lots of outdoor learning, including gardening in the sunshine. We made a rainbow of hope for our front window and today we’ve done some sewing with Easter cards to cheer up our families who are also at home staying safe. Oh, and we bought a keyboard to try and learn a new skill! Here’s our cat, Comet enjoying it. Keep smiling my lovelies and I’ll look forward to seeing you soon.

Hey Cedar :D I hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine. There are so many opportunities for learning in your garden and it definitely relates to our plants topic! Perhaps you could help with some gardening, water the plants or go on a nature hunt. Keep us posted with your activities. I miss you all and I like to see what you’ve been up to. Stay safe, Miss Laverick :)

As we’re all aware this term has come to an end much earlier than any of us wanted.  I am so proud of how hard the children worked together during these past few weeks. They have all showed great kindness, resilience and adaptability.

The home learning packs have now been sent home. There is a range of activities on there to have a go at. I am still here for any support you need. Just email the school and I’ll get in touch as soon as I can. I am looking forward to seeing your work from home. Don’t forget to tweet or email any work to the school, then I’ll be able to see how well you’ve been doing away from the classroom.

Stay safe and I hope to see you very soon

Miss Laverick J

Some children have been doing some cooking for their homework, which we shared as a class. It looked and tasted absolutely wonderful. Baking at home is a great way of practising practical Maths.

The children really enjoyed receiving their letters from other classes in the school. They really helped us learn more about what each character muscle means.

An extra special WELL DONE to David who came dressed as Blackbeard. David had remembered what he'd learnt about Blackbeard in class and bought his own non-fiction book about him. David won the best dressed child in Year 2, Cedar for World Book Day.

HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY :D Thanks for all your support in making your children look amazing for World Book Day 2020. We had a brilliant day enjoying books, learning all about our favourite stories and writing a book review.

We've been enjoying our independent learning activities around the classroom which we've worked hard on. Here, Tia and Rhylee have completed a jigsaw of the 4 countries which make up the United Kingdom. Super work!

Welcome back :D

I hope you enjoyed some rest over half term and that you are now feeling refreshed ready for our next topic 'What does X mark?'   During this topic, we will be learning about pirates and islands.

Wow! What a wonderful half term it's been. Thank you so much for all your hard work.

I’ve seen a huge increase in the amount of reading at home and I’m very grateful for that.

We’ve had so many fantastic pieces of homework which we’ve had many compliments on around school.

Cedar are a wonderful class and they make me proud each day.

When Miss Laverick's rabbit Avalanche visited Cedar's classroom. He sure did love the cuddles and fuss :D

SNOW ... much fun! ;) We wrapped up warm and braved the snow outside.

As a part of ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’ we looked at how we can keep our minds healthy. We also thought about what we can do if we’re feeling sad or worried. We made some worry dolls, which we can hold or talk with if we are feeling worried or anxious.

In DT we designed our very own Bog Babies, then we made them out of clay. Look at our finished results.

Thanks so much Edith for bringing your worm micro-habitat in to share with us. We all managed to investigte what a worm needs to survive and we even based our Science lesson around it.

A fun-packed Maths lesson, where we used smarties and haribo to create tally charts, pictograms and block diagrams with some added division at the end! The children worked so well as a team and i was a very proud teacher. Well done Cedar.

Little visitors in Cedar class this week. Thank you Mrs Surch for allowing us to investigate your Dad's collection.

So much fun in Music with Mrs Marvell-Stuart playing our song 'I want to be in a band'. We all had a go at using an instrument too.

A brilliant session with Mrs Hurdley, linking what we've learnt in Maths about directions to make a rocket land on the planets.

We used the Beebots in Maths to think about different directions. We now should know our left and right :)

In R.E, we have been learning about Judaism. We looked at what is special to Jews. Some of us had a go at making our own Star of David.

We've had lots of fun this week learning to tell the time with the clocks. We can now read the time at 'o'clock' and 'half past'.

In Art, we have been studying the Artist 'Steven Brown'. We found out many facts about him and his Art Work, which is sold worldwide. We then created our own picture in a similar style to him using oil pastels. The children worked so hard and we are very pleased with the finished outcomes.

We've had a fab start to 2020 in Cedar. 'Vlad' our class pet hamster is enjoying her time in Cedar so far too!

PENGUIN PETE

AMAZING! Wow, we were so proud of all children involved in the 2019 Christmas Production ‘Penguin Pete’. Everyone worked so hard to learn their lines and the songs. All the performances were brilliant and we had so much fun doing them.

We are very proud of our Year 2 SPACE display.

FUN BAKING COOKIES

We linked Food Technology and Maths to make, bake and decorate some cookies. We used the scales to carefully measure ingredients and we had to read and follow instructions. It was lots of fun and we hope you enjoyed eating your cookies at home.

LOOK at some of our amazing homework models. Thanks for all your hard work at home, they look fantastic!
