Class News

Another excellent week of learning in Willow class. We are really proud of how well the children have settled back in to school

life and have adapted to the new routines. This week we have started our new topics ‘How can we help our planet?’ and ‘Living Things (Science)’ We watched some news reports about forest fires in the Amazon and wrote our own reports to show the effects of deforestation in the rainforest. We are using Oenone Hammersley as our inspiration in Art where we went outside to sketch trees. We experimented with looking at the trees from different angles to find different shapes and patterns. In science we started to explore classifying things as living and non living as well as animals and plants.

During our first week back at school we all took part in the 'Take One Picture' project where we based all of our learning on 'Composition 8' by Kandinsky. We used our maths skills to draw shapes accurately and used coordinates to plot shapes onto specific points on the page. We listened to a piece of music called 'Everything starts from a dot' that was inspired by Kandinsky's painting. This inspired our writing where we looked at space pictures and wrote a fantasy story. At the end of the week we used watercolour paints to recreate our own version of the painting using accurately drawn shapes and lines.
