Calke Abbey

We had a fantastic time at Calke Abbey this week.  We explored the gardens, found out how plants and food grow and we had a taste test of some home grown fruit and veg.  We even visited the secret grotto and walked through the gardener's tunnel before our picnic lunch.  Later on, we visited the woods and made shelters using twigs, although it was hard work we worked in teams and did a fab job!

Art & D.T.

This half term we have been sketching observational drawings of flowers, we even got to search the playground to see what lovely plants and flowers we could find.

In D.T. we have designed and are now weaving our mini Robert Bakewell, sheep or Lady Jane Grey figures.  We have been fantastic weavers and have made Mrs Duncan very proud with our very patient and positive attitudes to learning!

We have been exploring Loughborough and Leicestershire using OS Maps this term.  We were super excited to find places we had been to and we have been learning all about map symbols.

We are Roman Soldiers

This week we had a visit from a real life Roman Soldier.  He was very interesting and taught us how to battle.  We learnt lots about his day to day life and even learnt how to make different formations using our shields.  He thought we were all super soldiers.

Look at the pictures below to see how we got on!

This week in Science we have been exploring how our muscles work.  We did our own research using books and computers in order to create a presentation to share with the class.

We learnt so many wonderful facts and enjoyed sharing them with the class.

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful festive holiday and a great start to 2018 so far.

We have made a great start to our week back at school and you have all been amazing me with your super attitudes to learning.  We have an exciting term ahead of us with lots of new learning ahead!  Lets keep this positive growth mindset going and show the rest of the school how super we are.smiley

Remember it is really important to get into school for 8.45am, this is when we start our guided reading so we don't want to miss out on anything.  If there is a reason and you know you are going to be late please come and speak to me about it.

It would be fantastic this term if we could win the attendance meerkat Alexander.  We keep missing out and haven't managed to win a lesson from Mr Bishop yet for 100% attendance.  Lets work really hard to get in to school and win this term. no

Mrs Duncan frown

Here are some pictures of us working really hard to solve multiplication and division word problems this week in maths.  We used number lines to help us.

This week in cooking we learnt how to make hummus. The lemons were very bitter but it tasted delicious. frown

What does your skeleton look like? In groups we worked together to draw what we thought our skeletons looked like. Mrs Duncan thought they were very interesting.

This term we have started cooking with Loughborough University. We made delicious tomato soup and we even got to taste it. It was a tasty treat.

Investigating Soil - We had so much fun exploring our soil samples. They were filled with lots of interesting things. It was lots of fun!

The Word Class Game - Mrs Duncan asked us to sort words into different groups depending on their word class. We found adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, nouns, verbs and we were even able to identify imperative verbs.

In maths we have been working on place value. We had lots of fun drawing the coins we needed to make different amounts.

We enjoyed making up some of our own invasion games for P.E.

This week in English we have been learning to punctuate speech.
