Potted Sports Day-28.6.18
Another day of sports with all of the children from Reception to year 6 working together and taking part in fun activities. Everyone had great fun and even though it was another scorching day they all tried their best. The main thing was that they all had fun!!
Competitive Sports Day -27.6.18
The new style Sports Day went down well with teachers, parents and most importantly the children. The children loved the events, the stickers and they were so proud of their achievements. It was a great success and even though it was soooo hot they all managed so well and tried their best. Well done everyone including the siblings, parents and staff during their races. What a great Robert Bakewell Team we are!!!
Tri-Golf @ Outwoods Edge-21.6.18
This was a new and exciting way of doing Tri-Golf. The Outwoods Edge team had worked so hard to create a realistic golf course with sand bunkers and water challenges. All of the children loved and really got into their groove at the end. They were amazing and I think we have some budding golfers in our school.
Sports Crew Ambassadors Conference @ Loughborough University-20.6.18
Today the sports crew finished their year with a bang. They were invited to take part in the final conference to showcase what they have achieved this year. They had to plan and deliver a presentation of the things they have done in school to a group of 30 children from other schools. Then they had to plan 15 minutes of active activities which they had to explain and encourage the other children to take part in. It was a challenging day and they worked so hard as a team. Finally they completed the day and successfully achieved their playleaders award. They proudly accepted their certificates during a passing out parade which parents attended. Well done guys. We are all so proud of what you do for sports and the children at Robert Bakewell.
Quadkids Athletics 13.6.18 (Y3/4) and 14.6.18 (Y5/6)
This is the first year we have taken part in the Quadkids Athletics. It was great fun and lots of children tried new activities and achieved new personal goals. Well done guys. You are stars!!
Town Sports 2018
Wow what a year!
It was a hot evening at Town Sports for the relay heats. All the children worked so hard in their teams and there were some very close races. The competition was tough but tried our best. Well done to all but especially the year 6 girls team who qualified for the finals on Saturday 16th. See you all there
KS1 Multi-skills festival @ Woodbrook Vale School 14.5.18
What a way to start a week !!! A sunny afternoon with a great group of kids and superb supporters. The children loved taking part in 8 fun packed activity stations. It was lovely to see some different children taking part and so many siblings there to cheer their brother or sister on. They had to prove they were there in a super photo at the end.
Sports Crew Club-Week 5 11.5.18
Obstacle course, skipping, pirate game and so much fun!!
RUUNNNNN!! Take 2
This time it was KS1 at Outwoods Edge with a little mud thrown in for good measure (we all know Mrs Gower likes a bit of running in the mud!!).
Each and every runner did an amazing job and for many this was their first time running a distance like this.
We had some great finishers with a 3rd for Lewis Onions and a 1st for Sarah Vickers. We were so proud of you all of you.
Keep on running guys!!
We had fun at food and fitness club this week. It was all super cheesy!!
We were cheese tasting and to our surprise the 'strong' favourite was the goats cheese. We would never have guessed that!
What will we be doing this week?
KS2 started the week in fine form at Woodbrook Vale High School during the KS2 cross country event. It was a challenging course but they all tried their best with all of the children completing their races. Well done guys!!
Cross country KS2-1.5.18
We are having a great time on Wednesdays at 'Food and Fitness Club'. We have tried new things and we have looked at the sugars in different foods which was a HUGE surprise. Not forgetting some silly sporty games each week.
Friday, Friday is Playground Games Club' lead by the RB Sports Crew (guided by Mrs Gower and Mr Willbond). The crew are doing an amazing job, leading, teaching and guiding a group of year 1,2,and 3 children. Here are a few sneaky snapshots of the fun we have had so far.
Why don't you come and join us?
Girls, girls, girls!!
We may have only had 4 but they worked so hard as a team and they played their socks off
It was a gorgeous sunny evening and a few of the girls now feel inspired to join a team. You go girls
Boys, boys, boys!! 12.4.18
The boys took part in a few friendly matches @ Boothwood.
They had great fun and worked hard as a team.
What skill and what an evening.

It's the girls turn next week
Tag Rugby Year 5/6 @ Charnwood College-15.3.18
What amazing teamwork and spirit on a wet, wet, wet afternoon. The weather was not really on our side but did not let this affect their afternoon. The children arrived and the heavens opened!! They were soaked through before they even started but they did not lose heart. They played so well, cheered each other on, laughed their socks off and had a fantastic afternoon. At the end of a SATs mock week for the year 6 children I thought I would arrive to see wet, moody children but there was not a grumpy face in sight!! They were amazing representatives for the school and I was proud to be there with them. Well done!!
Tag Rugby Year 3/4 @ Charnwood College
It was a gorgeous spring afternoon at the college after a quick walk up there for the competition. For 3 children this was their first competition and they LOVED it!!! The smiles on their faces is the reason why we do it and give all of the children as many experiences as possible. Well done guys.
Cross Country @ Charnwood College 7.3.18
The children had a great afternoon and many of them achieved a personal best from last year. One year 6 young man was in the top 10 for his year group and will hopefully go through to the finals at Prestwold Hall. Well done to you all.
KS1 Festival @ Charnwood College 27.2.18
After an unfortunate cancellation the children finally got to take part in the KS1. A fun filled afternoon with challenges and huge successes. The children loved it and we enjoyed watching them try new things and achieve their best!!.
When the year 6 children are away the year 5 children will play!!!
Whilst the year 6's were on the residential the year 5 children worked their little socks off and tried their best at the swimming competition. Their determination was clear to see and they were so proud of themselves. This was a tough competition and they made us proud.
Another day and another festival. 28.11.17
This time for KS1
We went to Woodbrook Vale High School for a multi-skills festival.
The children loved it and there were a few funny moments, especially on the space hoppers!!
Duck, dodge and dive!!
Tonight was the first ever LPAP dodge ball competition.
This was the funniest competition I have EVER watched .
The boys were amazing and they were so proud of what they achieved.
They went through to the final, it went to sudden death and unfortunately the other team hit us first.
They were such good sportsmen and many showed real flair for this crazy sport.
I can't wait for the next one
Football, Football, Football!!! (30.10.17)
Tonight the year 3/4 boys fought well during 4 matches against Cobden, Rendell, Hathern and Stonebow. The drew their first match and won all of their other games. This saw them into the final against Stonebow. It was a close match as the light faded with a score of 1:0 to Stonebow. They were great sportsmen and gave 3 cheers to Stonebow.
Well done boys. What an achievement and what great team work!
Thank you parents for your support and to Mr Willbond for coming especially for the match.
Cross country time again!!
We had a great turn out again, on a cold Saturday morning, to run in the county cross country event. Even after a late start due to traffic this did not stop them.
We had some personal best places from our year 6 boys, some new runners, some regular and passionate runners and everyone dug deep to complete the challenging course. Every single child should be so proud of themselves of their achievement. A massive thank you to all of the parents and supporters. The children can't do it without you.
Thank you as always to Mrs Barber for organising this and it was great to see Mr Simmons (who jogged from his house to organise and cheer the kids on!!!)
Looking forward to the last one in NOVEMBER
Prestwold Hall-Cross Country-30.9.17
A fantastic turn out for the first cross country event of the year on a chilly but sunny Saturday morning. Well done to all of the children who were back again to achieve a personal best and a huge congratulations to all of the first time runners. You did a cracking job!!
Thanks to Mrs Barber and to all of the parents for all of their support.
The next event will be at the end of October-We look forward to seeing you there!!
Sports Leader Conference-25.9.17
It was a wet start to the day but 10 keen sports crew leaders shared 4 huge umbrellas and marched their way to the university. It was a fun packed day of sports and learning how to be the best sports crew leaders. They were itching to get back into school and share everything that they had learnt during the day. Watch this space for sports crew activities.
New school year, New sports year!!
Thursday 7th September was our first event of the year. 10 year 6 girls and boys took part in the first athletics festival at Thorpe Acre Junior School. The children had lots of fun, met some new people and represented their school. They did themselves and the school proud by being awarded third place out of 7 schools.
Well done Amber, Georgia, Jack P, Alfie B-S, Ethan D, Keisha, Lea-Marie, Liam S and Harry H. Unfortunately Isabelle was poorly but we look forward to having you on the team next time.
Wish us luck for Thursday 14th when we will have the year 5 children competing!!
