This week in maths we have been encouraging the children to use their reasoning skills to show how they solved different maths problems! :)
Goodbye Mrs Rex! Look at our lovely thank you and goodbye card that we made for Mrs Rex in the office. We wrote our goodbye wishes on the raindrops and we will miss her dearly!
World Book Day has been lots of fun! We have enjoyed talking about our favourite stories and where we like to read. We were also very excited to meet an author! Super dressing up 1J! :)
Investigating magnetic materials in science!
In maths today we prentended that we were Robin Hood buying food for the poor people. We practiced giving change from a 10p coin.
1J loved using the computers to write sentences about what they did over half term!
In science we used plastic water bottles to catch rain and measure rain fall!
Today we had our first lesson on fractions in maths! Miss Jessop was very impressed with what 1J already knew about fractions. Today we explored making equal halves of different shapes. Keep up the good work 1J! :)
As our topic lesson this afternoon we used different building blocks to create our own igloos! Aren't they brrrr-illiant!
Our English display looked fab this week with all of our learning about brochures. We also have a new wow wall where Miss Jessop will put up super work!
1J have been using some brilliant mathematical language when comparing two digit numbers.
Today in science we experimented making different shadow puppets and looking at how they made shadows when they blocked the light :)
We had lots of fun using the instruments in music today to make weather sounds! CRASH! BANG!
Today in science we made some collages about the seaons and the different weathers each season has.
Our Poles Apart display is looking great! We know that polar bears live at the North Pole and penguins live at the South Pole! Also, we can all now tell you what the equator is!

Our Topic display board is ready for our new topic after Christmas! We will be learning about the North and South Poles!
We had a very special treat on Monday...Mrs Barber brought her pet hedgehogs in for us to look at! They were called Titch and Gus and we learnt lots of great facts about them too!

We have had so much fun making Christmas decorations for our classroom this week! What do you think of our hand print wreath and pretty baubles?
Oh Buddy! He has done it again! He thought he was being helpful by decroating our Christmas tree for us...but loo roll doesn't look that pretty! Thanks Buddy! x
Cheeky Buddy the Elf! I found him drawing funny faces on our fruit this morning! I wonder what other mischievous behaviour he will get up to!
It is the first of December which can only mean one thing!...Buddy the Elf has arrived in class 1J! He is hoping to see lots of friendly and hard working children up until Christmas. His first challenge for the children is to write a letter to Santa which we will send off on Monday and await his reply! Welcome to 1J Buddy! :)
Year 1 Autumn term 2 news letter
1J dressed up brilliantly today for Children in Need! We hope we have raised lots of money and we have had lots of fun!
This week has been Anti-bullying week. We have had lots of discussions about what bullying is and how we can help people being bullied. We all made some beautiful wands to make wrinkled hearts better.
We loved using the autumn objects we collected yesterday to create some beautiful painting and rubbing pictures!
This afternoon we went on an Autumn walk around the playground to collect some beautiful leaves and sticks for our art lesson tomorrow! Keep your eyes on our page to see our arty autumn creations!
In maths this week we have been measuring! We have loved using the cubes to measure objects around the room. Our challenge for today was to measure the length of our maths books. Some of us even used rulers and found out that our maths books are 29cm long! Well done 1J! :)
Today we had our first maths lesson looking at shapes! We used lots of different shapes, some of which we cut out ourselves, to create some beautiful pictures!
Miss Jessop would like to say a huge thank you to all of the children who have spent time creating some amazing home work pieces! We have made sure to celebrate the beautiful projects that have been brought in by sharing them in class and the teachers have most definitely enjoyed the delicious super hero cakes that were brought in. They were almost too good to eat! Keep up the super work after half term 1 J! :)
